Car Financing for People With Bad Credit

While having bad credit makes it harder to get a loan for a new car, the process is not impossible. If you have a job, a bank account, driver's license, references, current bills, a down payment and insurance, you can get the new car you want. Simply follow these tips on car financing for people with bad credit.

*Be realistic- that's the first step. A lot of people get frustrated when shopping for a bad credit car loan because they have unrealistic expectations as to how much a lender will give them. Some car dealers will finance in-house, and few lenders will let a person with poor credit finance with no money down.

*Look for car dealers that specialize in car financing for people with bad credit. These dealers work with banks that are ready to help those with poor credit, and they are often more flexible in terms of down payment and other requirements.

You will likely have to pay more in interest than someone with better credit.

*Once you found a dealer that will work with you, they will ask for copies of your most recent pay stubs, as well as copies of your bills, and your driver's license.

In addition, you will need a copy of your current bank statement, your car insurance information and some character references.

*Once you have all the information required, you can start looking at some vehicles. Most lenders want to see you in-store, and they will likely want to talk to you. Be forthright about the size of the down payment you can make. When the lender has determined the size of the loan you will get, you can further refine your vehicle choice.

*Don't get too alarmed at your initial rate. Frequently, car dealers and lenders can enter you into a program that will allow you to refinance after one to two years. This will allow you to either establish or rebuild your credit history.

Car financing for people with bad credit works in much the same way as it does for those with good credit, with a few exceptions. To get a loan, be realistic in your expectations, and steer clear of dealers that promise no deposit/down payment. When in talks with a dealer, ask for references from other bad-credit customers they've helped. Keep in mind, that if you already have bad credit, getting a large car loan will leave you with another debt you are ill-equipped to handle.
